Writing helps me process life. It helps me remember memories. It’s my outlet. Writing is my thing. It’s what I do.

So, it only makes since that I would eventually start a blog. Blogging a part of who I am, and who God has created me to be. I write a blog, and this may be considered weird, but starting this blog is one of the best decisions I’ve made.

Blogging has changed my life in so many ways, and today, I’d like to share eight of those ways with y’all :)
8 ways blogging (3)

Here we go:

1. I’ve been reading more blogs ever since I began this adventure. In learning to do anything new, it helps to observe those who are a few steps ahead of you and follow what they do.

A few of my favorite blogs are Living in Yellow, by Regina, Living Well Spending Less, MaLyn Logic, and She is Joyful… just to name a few. Many other lovely blogs fill my Bloglovin’ feed.

Reading blog posts is for reals one of my new favorite things to do! {Which makes since, because I loved Pinterst for years before I started blogging, and Pinterst is a visual spring board into blogs.}

2. I’m now on Twitteras in, I tweet. Before I started blogging, I created a Twitter account to keep up with organizations at my university. I never tweeted. I often forgot to check Twitter.

But since I started blogging, I’ve entered this realm called Twitter and started learning how to tweet. I’m definitely NOT an expert, and I still don’t really know what to tweet, but I enjoy Twitter so much more as a blogger than I did before hand.

And Twitter is also a place where lots of bloggers hang out, so I’ve been introduced to new blogs via Twitter, which is awesome {refer back to point #1}.

Twitter also has this thing called Twitter Chats where a bunch of people use a certain hashtag and have a structured conversation at a particular time. I haven’t been able to participate in any Twitter chats yet {because school} but I hope to this summer. Do you know of any great Twitter chats? Please let me know in the comments so I can check them out. I’m trying to figure out which one’s I’d like to participate in.

3. I now take pics of everything. Granted, I’ve always like taking pictures, but I actually take pictures of food now– which is something I always deemed peculiar until I started this blog. Because, come on now, “cute” food is fun! And yummy!

…Moving on, I also photograph random adventures I go on, or fun moments with friends, ect, because What if I’ll want to blog about this later???

And while we’re on the subject of pictures…

4. My photo editing skills have improved. Pic Monkey and Canva are my favorite free ways to edit pictures/create graphics.

5. I have joined a few blog Facebook groups, and I absolutely love them. The two I’m actively a part of are The Peony Project and The Blogger Life.

These blog groups are fantastic because the bloggers in the groups are really supportive of the members and their blogs, and they answer each other’s questions. I’ve learned a lot about blogging through these groups.

6. I have considered writing a book. When I was younger, I loved writing “books.” When I was seven, I wrote books about fictional adventures my cousins and I went on. When I hit my teens, my stories switched over to being about princesses in far off lands who fell in love with daring knights. However, I never dreamed I’d ever actually publish a book. The thought seemed {and still seems} super scary!

But then I wrote this post, and my mom commented that she thought I might should write a book someday. And the thought was planted in my mind. And it has grown.

What will my book be about? I’m not completely sure, to be honest. I’ve considered writing a “College Survival Guide” e-book, or a book about “The Church Girl Complex” or about “Being Contently Single”… What type of book would interest you? <<comment, please, and tell me! :)

7. Blogging is my new way to “waste” my time. Well, I don’t really consider it a waste, but it does take up a BUNCH of time. {If you’re thinking about starting a blog– BEWARE!!}

Writing content, taking pictures/finding free stock photos, and editing pictures all takes up a bunch of time. PLUS- once the post is published I have to share it on social media so it can gain exposure. PLUS- reading blogs to gain inspiration takes time. PLUS- designing this website to make it look pretty takes time. PLUS- finding blogs to sponsor takes time.

…How did I do all of this and still take a full load of college classes?? I didn’t study ;) Just kidding, but it was “fun” to juggle blog+class+work. I think it’s like any other hobby- you have to make time for it.

8. Since I’ve started blogging, I’ve become more confident in myself. I am an introverted person who abhors small talk. There have been times where I’ve been terrified to talk to someone new, or go to some college event, but I did it anyway. But if I ever needed to psych myself up, I would think over and over, Kara, can do this. You write about your life on the internet, for Pete’s sake. You can do this.

And that’s it!!

Do you blog? If so, how has it changed your life?

    So true, blogging has changed my life, and getting more serious about blogging in the past year or so has also changed my life. I always took a lot of pictures, but the type and quality has changed so much! And I also agree about how it’s the new way I spend all my “free” time, which is unfortunate since I have a lot of other things I should be doing. :)

    Blogging is the only thing that got me on Twitter, too! And I totally agree on how wonderful it is to discover new blogs and to join those communities (yay, Peony Project!). Thanks for sharing your experience!

    Hi Kara,

    I loved this post! A lot of the reasons you mentioned are the exact same reasons I have for blogging! After reading your about me, I realized that we are so so similar! I don’t know if it’s because we’re in college and both love Jesus, but that’s basically all there is about me so maybe that’s why we can connect so well! Anyways! I look forward to reading the rest of your blog :)

    I loved reading your post. I completely I agree with you 100% that blogging has also changed my life. I have always loved writing since I was younger and I even went into journalism, but eventually took a different route. I may not write for my work, but I love blogging as an outlet to remember parts of my life and just expressing myself. I also have been connecting with different bloggers, which has been fun too. I have always started a blog, but never seen it through, but now for the first time in my life I regularly blog. I also have to agree with you that I also read more blogs now. I regularly check Facebook and Instagram, but I also regularly read different blogs on my Bloglovin feed. Thanks for sharing how blogging has changed your life.

    I would love a book on the church girl complex! I think that’d be interesting :) & thanks for mentioning my blog!!! I saw that and was like WHAT!?!? yay! haha :D

    I’ve really liked blogging for the creativity it has inspired in me! It’s cool to have your own little blank space to fill on the internet.
