“I surrender all. I surrender all. All to Thee my blessed Savior, I surrender all.” I’ve grown up hearing that hymn. I’ve also heard numerous sermons over the years which ask the question, “Do you really surrender all? Or do you only surrender most?” And the preachers challenge us to only sing those words if we really mean them. Being the literalist that I am, after hearing those sermons I would typically just hum. “Hmm hmm hmm hm hmmm. Hmm… Read more »

Remember way back in SAT prep? When they told us that sometimes all of the multiple choice options would be correct? {Oh those questions are a joy, aren’t they? ;) } In order to get the question correct, we needed to sort through the good options and pick the best answer. The very best option in a sea of mediocre. Those questions always stressed me out. What if I picked the wrong one? What if the one I think best isn’t what the scantron reader thinks… Read more »

The following is a guest post by Rachel of Chasing Chels It seems as though Valentine’s Day has always resonated as an anticipated holiday for couples and a depressing one for singles. I’ll be the first to admit that nope, it’s not much fun to spend Valentine’s Day alone. “But hey,” everyone consoles you, “God’s just saving you for the right person.” They give you the sympathetic smile, the familiar head tilt, the comforting eyes. The statement is most certainly… Read more »

Valentine’s Day sometimes gets a bad rap, but it’s one of my favorite holidays. Last year, one of my friends told me she had made a heart chain with the names of people she loved on it. I think that’s a fantastic idea, and so today I’m making my own heart chain. I think this heart chain could be a creative way to pray, so it’s going to go into my prayer box. Then I can pray through the chain… Read more »

Wanna know an easy way to boost anyone’s day? SNAIL MAIL!!  When I was in elementary school, a couple of my friends and I exchanged letters back and forth. One of these friends lived four hours away. Another lived five minutes away. We wrote letters in sloppy handwriting and they were full of misspelled words. Sometimes we would draw pictures in our letters, or include a coloring sheet for our friend to complete. I still have most of these letters. They’re… Read more »

A few weeks ago I posted about Operation Christmas Child and challenged us to pack one more shoe box this year than we did last year. My fellow college students, this challenge is for us too. I know how easy it is to pull the “But I’m a poor college student!!” excuse, or the “But I’m so busy!” excuse. Don’t. No excuses. These children have nothing. Zip. Nada. This may be their first present ever. Their first time hearing about Jesus. So that… Read more »

Guess what time it is??? It’s time for OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD!!! **Throws confetti** Whoo hoo!! Operation Christmas Child is an amazing program. In case this is your first time hearing about it, OCC is a branch of Samaritan’s Purse, which is an international relief organization that helps hurting people and tells people about Jesus. Pretty cool, right? More specifically, OCC is made up of people, like you and me, filling shoe boxes with simple items. (More on these boxes in… Read more »

Have you ever been a part of a flashlight egg hunt? It’s my favorite way to hunt Easter eggs. When I was younger, my parents would host a flashlight egg hunt at our house for their 5th and 6th grade Sunday school students. The day after the big hunt, my brother and I would run to the field behind our house, Walmart sack in hand. We picked up dozens of eggs that were just scattered in the grass- in plain… Read more »

This is a guest post by Kelly of Kelly Cox at Home Memorizing scripture is important in our home! Psalm 119:11 says “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”  That verse alone inspires me to try and memorize the Word! We have tried different memory verse methods in the past and some have worked better than others. One thing I know is that my response to situations in life is much more… Read more »

It’s a new year, which means that now’s the time to become whatever you want to be. It’s the time for New Years Resolutions. It’s the time for the start of something new (and the time for a High School Musical song to pop into my head). It’s the new year, so it’s the time for a new you. At least, that’s what we strive to do.I’ve never been one to make a bunch of New Years Resolutions. New Years… Read more »
