What’s your singleness story?

I guess I would have to say that my singleness story began in my senior year of high school.

Up until that time period, I hadn’t really paid boys much attention. I mean sure they were cute and all and some would try to approach me, but I was pretty much focused on my studies and learning to really grow in my walk with Jesus.

zoie-1During this time period in my life, I was really learning to be comfortable in my own skin. It was during this time period in high school that it was brought to my attention that, “Uh-oh wait I’m 18 years old and I have never had a boyfriend/ been asked out on a date! Alert the ‘Oh no, she’s gonna be 30 and single’ police!” Haha!

But seriously, all throughout high school a lot of my friends had boyfriends or would often frequent the dating scene and I just didn’t have a desire to open up my heart to just anyone who was interested.

I had a deep desire and longing to one day share a life with just ONE man, not many men, just one. I had a deep desire to have a blissfully romantic love story that would edify and give glory to God. Additionally, I wanted a love that would mirror the way that Christ loves the church.

I’m a semester into my freshman year in college and my desire still stands, yet, I can’t tell you it hasn’t been met with much adversity and that waiting on God’s promise is always the easiest thing to do, but it IS possible.

What’s the best thing about being single?

The best thing I would say about being single is that I have tons of free time to spend with the Lord, my friends, and family.

Since I am a Freshman in college, this past semester has been one of a huge adjustment, especially being away from my family on a daily basis. However, I am so grateful for this time because I can honestly say that my relationship with the Lord has grown so much deeper.

Living for Jesus in college is fun! I wouldn’t trade my moments with Him for anything in this world!

What’s your biggest struggle when it comes to singleness?

zoie-3When it comes to being single, my biggest struggle would have to be sometimes losing sight of the bigger picture.

From a pretty young age I felt the Lord placed a desire for marriage in my heart and I truly believe it awaits me in the future. However, the Lord did create me to be more than just someone’s girlfriend or wife.

I can sometimes find myself distracted, looking to the right and the left at this world and its culture instead of keeping my eyes on Jesus.

His promises are sure- Yes and Amen, and I know that a beautiful love story awaits me. But until that time comes I know I must pursue His purpose and destiny for my life and live each moment as it comes and not just “lie in wait” as the woman of Proverbs 7 did for men to come to her.

God’s design for us women is so much greater than we even know! Let us strive to be women after God’s own heart. The rest will follow.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give your fellow singles?

One piece of advice I would give to my fellow single ladies is to be content and to spend the season of your singleness growing and developing a deeper relationship with the Lord.

Don’t ever think that you have to “catch his eye” or be the girl your crush notices. You are already the apple of God’s eye and He is a deep admirer of the beauty that comes from within (1 Peter 3:3-4).

Our identity is found in Christ. Besides, Eve didn’t have to do anything to get Adam to notice her, God simply placed her in his life. Be content and trust Him!
