During my Sophomore year of High School, my English class and I read Ivanhoe. The unit was a blast. My English teacher had the brilliant idea of assigning each student a character in the book. Then, we created blogs and we had daily writing assignments to post on the blogs, and we were required to write in character. It was so much fun! I was Prince John, and I greatly enjoyed being the villain. (This was also a monumental unit because this was when I first considered blogging regularly. Without that creative blogging experience, I may never have even thought to give blogging a try.)
In Ivanhoe, the characters  partake in a jousting tournament. My teacher thought it would be fun for us to re-enact the tournament. The picture below is my class preparing for the tournament. We went down to the pre-k hallway and held the tournament there. Taking turns riding on stick horses, we ran down the hallway thrusting pool noodles at each other. The preschoolers cracked up and cheered for their favorite participant, and we hammed it up for them.
The tournament made the book come alive, and I’m so glad we had such a fun day in class.
