Late night cry sessions with Jesus are becoming common for me.

And during those cry sessions, I’m learning to not only cry out to him, but also to read about his promises in his word.

At the beginning of this month I had one of these cry/ Bible reading sessions and wrote down 22 verses for the brokenhearted. Wednesday night during my cry session, I turned to Lamentations, instead of the Psalms.

“For the Lord will not cast off forever, but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men.” ~Lamentations 3:31-33.

The hurting won’t last forever.

I am so thankful that even when I’m sad and hurting, God is there with compassion and steadfast love. He never leaves me. Even when people and plans fail, he never does.

Lamentations 3-31-33

Later on in this same chapter, it says, “Who has spoken and it come to pass, unless the Lord has commanded it? Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come?” (Lam 3:37-38).

Honestly, I don’t know what to think of those verses. It’s hard for my mind to comprehend both good and bad coming from God, but in the end I think it’s comforting.
Because if we say bad things come from the devil and only good things come from God, than doesn’t that weaken God’s power and imply that God isn’t strong enough to conquer the bad things satan supposedly sends our way?

As hard as it is, I’m thankful BOTH the good and the bad come from God. I believe God uses the bad times to draw us closer to him, if we let him. And as Romans 8:28 says, he’ll work all things for the good. Even the things that we can’t imagine ever being good.

Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has a plan. A plan for hope and a future. Jeremiah wasn’t writing this to people who had things going for them. Rather, his audience were people who were in CAPTIVITY!! So just like me, they needed to know that God has a plan even in the bad times.

God is good. ALL the time.

These truths deeply affected me on Wednesday night. (Well, they still affect me today too :) )

I want to leave us with three things I hope we’ll never forget:

1. Never forget that God’s plan never fails. God doesn’t make mistakes. Everything happens so that he may glorify himself and make himself known.

2. Never forget that God works all things for the good. Even the things that seem terribly awful at the time. Years later we’ll be able to look back on the hardships of today and see how we grew through them.

3. Never forget that even in the hard times, God is still with us and he will never leave us even though things are rough. He loves us and he will see us through our hardships.

Thank you for sharing your heart, sweet girl. From one girl who’s had lots of late-night cry sessions with Jesus to another, that is a good place to be. Love the photo of your underlined Scripture. All the time, God is good.

Thanks Lucy. As much as I hate the cry sessions, you’re right, it’s a good place to be. Because then He can mend my broken heart.

Romans 8:28 is one of my favorites and I was saying it in my head right before I saw how you included it. God does allow bad things to happen as Job can attest to but it is only for a time. There’s a difference between testing and temptation. The testing allows the dross to be brought up so that He can wipe it away. Let’s be real…we still have things, not so pleasant things at that, that He is still getting rid of. Old thought patterns and beliefs that really don’t belong. But God does not tempt us and outrightly tells us so. God always brings us to the still waters and the green pastures so that we can take our rest in Him. Even in the midst of the tests, we can still rest in Him.

Thank you for sharing and being transparent…God takes account of every tear that falls from your eyes. They are precious to Him <3

Thank you for that, Liv. It’s very encouraging. And you’re absolutely right- He does use the fire to perfect us in becoming like Him.

Love this post!! It’s so good & encouraging! I haven’t entirely read all of Lamentations because it’s so depressing ha. I’ve had a few crying sessions with Jesus too, but those sessions are often the best times because I can feel God holding me and bringing me peace. I am also thankful that He gives good and bad, because if He didn’t, I don’t think we would willingly come to Him. Thanks for sharing!!

That’s a good way of putting that: without the bad things “we would[n’t] willingly come to Him.” He allows hard times to draw us to Himself. Such a good point! Thanks Hannah!
