I’ve been stressed out today over signing up for classes next semester and a bunch of homework left to do before Wednesday and finding time to vote tomorrow (I GET TO VOTE!!!!! Whoo hoo!).

Matthew 11:28-30 says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Well, I’ve been feeling weary and burdened. I need to run to Jesus, learn from him and find rest for my soul. That sounds wonderful, like a glass of ice cold water on a blazing hot Texas day.

So I needed to hear the words of those verses, and the lyrics to the Jamie Grace song “Come to Me” helped too.

It’s amazing how much peace Jesus gives me when I turn to him. It makes me wonder why I don’t turn to him more often; you would think that I would learn.

John 14:27 is a wonderful promise from our God in heaven: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

And in John 16:33 Jesus declares “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.”

In Jesus’ day, the Roman culture was all about the Pax Romana, or the Roman Peace. The Romans achieved this peace by conquering other nations and remaining in control of everything.

Jesus totally went against his culture and claimed that he himself can give peace and that we can find peace in him.

Jesus is the source of lasting peace. In him we find rest and comfort. Why in the world do I turn to other things to find rest, when I know that I will only be relieved in Christ’s arms? That’s like turning to gum instead of food to fill an empty stomach; it may help me forget the pain, but in the end the hunger is still there.

Jesus will give us hope when we’re hurting.
He’ll give us rest from our burdens.

We just have to come to him.

“Come to me”~ Jamie Grace

I had a dream I was standin’ on the shore
Two feet planted in the sand
Soakin’ up Your glory yeah
Saw You walkin’ from a distance
Without a hint of resistance
Had Your arms open
And a warmth in your eyes
You took my hand and You whispered

Come to me when
You’re weary and
I’ll give you hope when you’re hurting
I’ll give you rest from your burden
Come to me when
You’re weary and
I’ll give you hope when you’re hurting
I’ll give you rest from your burden now

I woke up to the weight of the world
Right back into reality
And all that’s goin’ wrong
Cause in the midst of this chaotic life
I try to find peace of mind
But You’ve been there all along
And even now I hear You whisper

Come to me when
You’re weary and
I’ll give you hope when you’re hurting
I’ll give you rest from your burden
Come to me when
You’re weary and
I’ll give you hope when you’re hurting
I’ll give you rest from your burden

I feel the weight, I feel the weight is slowly liftin’
As you close the distance
And I know, it’s gonna be okay when I hear you say
Come to me when
You’re weary and
I’ll give you hope when you’re hurting
Oo I’m gonna carry your burden
Come to me when
You’re weary and
I’ll give you hope when you’re hurting
I’ll give you rest from your burden now

The weight is lifted now
