There are perhaps no days
of our childhood lived
so fully as those
we spent with a favorite book.
~Marcel Proust

There is nothing as magical as a child curling up in her mother’s lap to hear a Christmas book.
Begging to hear just one more story before it is time to go to sleep.
Traveling to far off lands found within the beloved pages.Books at Christmas time are even more magical. They spark one’s imagination and spur on the spirit of Christmas.

Today’s Twelve Days of Christmas post is about just a few of the Christmas books I loved as a child. Happy reading! :)

(P.S. The pictures of the books are magical portals to Amazon.com, so you can buy the books if you’d like.)

My Top Four Christmas Books…

1. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbra Robinson
This book is a classic. I remember my mom reading it aloud to me for the first time when I was in the third grade. I laughed so hard my sides ached. This is a beautiful story, and if you haven’t read it, I completely, 100%, recommend it.
2. Winnie The Pooh and the Perfect Christmas Tree by Bruce Talkington
I. Love. This. Book.
It was my absolute favorite when I was little. It’s a pop-up book (I mean, come on now! Pop-up books = automatic awesomeness!) and the illustrations are adorable. There are fun pull tabs and flaps to lift. ‘Tis a beautiful interactive book. I encourage you to read it, just to be delighted by the fun it brings.
3. The Tale of the Three Trees retold by Angela Elwell Hunt
I don’t know if this is an inherently Christmas book, but oh wells.
This book tells the story of three trees who make wishes for what they want to be in life. Then, it describes what actually happens to the trees and how they do get what they want in the end- just maybe in a different way than they imagined.
I love this story because it tells the story of Jesus in such a creative way.
4. The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore
A classic poem, I’m sure you’ve heard of it.
But, I wanted to mention it because the book I grew up with is a pop-up book (I really loved pop-up books) and I loved playing with the illustrations. I had a tiny doll that was just the right size to fit in the pop-up house, so I enjoyed having her live out the poem. So, in short, I like the poem, but I love the pop-up book :)
Bonus: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I know, I know, this isn’t a Christmas book. For some reason though, I like to reread this book around Christmas time. Maybe it’s because it’s mentioned in the movie You’ve Got Mail, I don’t know. But I love this book and I love Christmas, so putting them together is super fun.
