As I’m writing this post, it’s 1:54 A.M. I can’t sleep. I’ve been sobbing for the last two hours. I have a broken heart right now (for reasons that aren’t mine to tell), and I need Jesus to pick up the pieces.

So I’m searching for Bible verses that contain truths about how God is close to the hurting, and how he will never leave me. Because he is, and he won’t. And in my heart I truly believe that. My head just needs some convincing right now.

Thus this post.
Ecclesiastes teaches there is nothing new under the sun. So I know there are other brokenhearted people out there. Because of that, I’m writing this post to us- I’m writing to those who need a gentle reminder that God is good and that he cares for us.

22 Verses for the brokenhearted to cling to

These are the verses I’m clinging to tonight and through out this season of brokenness:

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 33:18

I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my foot on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. Psalm 40:1-3

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 43:3

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. Psalm 45:1-2

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted among the earth. Psalm 46:10

Surely God is my help; the LORD is the one who sustains me. Psalm 54:4

But I call to God, and the LORD saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. Psalm 55:16-17

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall. Psalm 55:22

I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me. Psalm 57:1b-2

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher that I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. Psalm 61:1-3

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

Trust him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Psalm 62:8

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 63:7

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

I will meditate on all your works and consider your mighty deeds. Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? Psalm 12-13

He says, “I removed the burden from their shoulders; their hands were set free from the basket. In your distress you called and I rescued you.” Psalm 6-7a

I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever, with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. Psalm 89

When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O Lord, supported me, your consolation brought joy to the soul. Psalm 94:18-19

Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things. Psalm 98:1a

Hear my prayer, O LORD; let my cry come to you. Do not hide your face from me when I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly. Psalm 102:1

You remain the same, and your years will never end. Psalm 102:27

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 107:1

I’m going to stop typing with that. There are so many verses to encourage the broken!! Way more than twenty-two. I didn’t even get out of the book of Psalms!!

However, if I wrote ever single verse about deliverance, brokenness, and praising God no matter what, we’d be here for a very long time. And I do need sleep tonight. Eventually. If I can fall to sleep. We shall see.

Anywho, for those of you who are brokenhearted or have been in the past, which verse(s) do you cling to? Please tell me in the comments below, because I would love to cling to them too.

I’m so sorry you’re brokenhearted, I pray for God to mend your heart. I always liked the verse “blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” Matthew 5:4 . All of these verses are so beautiful.
